Columbia %26amp; Harvard both hosted high ranking Nazi officials in the 1930's.
In 1933, Columbia University palyed host to Germany's US ambassador, Hans Luther when he was invited to speak on campus and attend a reception in his honour.
In May 1934, Harvard also played host to Hans Luther and the following month entertained Adolf Hitler's foreign press chief, Ernst Hanfstangl. He had been a close associate of Hitler's since the 1920's and was then responsible for spreading Nazi propaganda around the world.
Towards the end of 1934, Germany's Boston consul-general, BaronKurt von Tippelskirch attended a ceremony honouring Harvard graduates who had died while fighting for Germany during World War 1. The consul's wreath included the Nazi swastika.
In 1936, both Harvard %26amp; Columbia sent representatives to Germany to take part in the 550th anniversary of the University of Heidelberg, despite the fact that by this time the university had been purged of Jewish faculty and scholars, instituted a Nazi curriculum and had hosted a burning of books by Jewish authors.
