I'm having a girl in about 3 weeks and am set on the first name Ivy. My husband wants Nevaeh for the middle name but I'm a little unsure. I love the name but I don't know if it sounds okay together. I want something unique and pretty. Help me. Does it sound okay?
Baby girl Ivy Nevaeh? What do you think?
Ivy is gorgeous, simple and spunky.
Nevaeh, on the other hand, is trendy, contrived and completely void of meaning (or quite negative, if you take the "heaven spelled backwards" etymology, given that anything religious done in reverse is meant to convey the exact opposite, that being HELL in this case). :( It's also anything but "unique" -- having joined the top fifty MOST popular names within just a few years of its creation LOL -- and as a recent coinage with no correct or even usually-assumed pronunciation, and at least half a dozen currently common (nu-VAY-a, ne-VAY, NIV-ee-a, nu-VEE, etc.), no one can truly tell you if it sounds "pretty" or even simply okay with the first name. Frankly, no matter which dreamed-up pronunciation you prefer, I'd find the similar V sounds so close together far too repetitive.
Perhaps something less trendy, created and repetitive with a similar heavenly meaning would appeal? Ivy Celia, for example. ;)
Reply:I usually don't complain about what people choose to name their children, but I really hate the name Nevaeh. We all know it's Heaven spelled backwards. A lot of people use it thinking it's unique, but I really think it's silly and overused.
What about something like Faith or Angela instead if you're looking to have a spiritual name?
Reply:I think the names sound beautiful together and you should have no reservations and a lil advice, sometimes you just keep the names to yourself and save yourself from other peoples negative opinions...
If you love it then go with it, its pretty and if it is meant to be, it will suit her perfectly... I think it is unique and thats a great thing...
Reply:I adore Ivy as a first name, however Nevaeh is not the least bit 'unique' anymore. It's #122 in the most popular girl's names in the 2000s with over 18 000 baby girls in the US with that name. I think it was a pretty awful trend name to begin with and it's been inexplicably popular. No one would name their kids Evol either, would they? Of course if it's something your husband would like (and I know how hard it's to get a guy to suggest anything) I think you could use it as a middle name for Ivy. I even think it would go alright together, even though I'm not entirely sure about how to pronounce it. Are you? I think I'd team Ivy with something a bit more substantial since the name is so short. Like Ivy Alexandra or Ivy Elizabeth.
Reply:If you want a unique name, dont use Naveah. Ivy....pretty well used too. But if you think its pretty, then go for it. Its your baby and as long as you and your hubby like it then go for it.
Also, the baby will msot likely be called Ivy every day so whether they sound perfect together isnt too much of a problem. Unless your child will always be called by her first and second name at the same time "Ivy Nevaeh, come here." "Ivy Nevaeh, dinner is ready", "Ivy Nevaeh, did you brush your teeth?"
It will probably hardly be used. Stick with the Ivy and if you want to slot in Naveah too, go for it.
Reply:I really do not like the name Nevaeh, but think Ivy is a very beautiful name. Here are some middle names that I think work well with it:
Ivy Lee
Ivy Anna
Ivy Jade
Ivy Grace
Reply:It really depends on how it flows with the last name. If you really love it though who are we to say yes or no. Naveah is Heaven spelled backwards so of course it is beautiful. I have always been a fan of the name Ivy, especially since Poison Ivy is one of my all time favorite villaness.' I think it flows well with just the two names. I think it will be fine. Good luck and Congratulations. Hope this helps. I think it sounds fine.
Reply:NO. If you want to name her Heaven, then name her Heaven.
You're not going to name her Yvi and say "it's Ivy spelled backwards," right? Same principle.
Reply:I dont like the middle name but different is good im sure no one else has that middle name LOL! good luck...
Reply:I think that there is too much -V- noise in that name. Nevaeh is not a very pretty name to me, but if it is what you and hubby agree upon, then more power to you!
BTW I LOOOVE the name Ivy.
Reply:ivy's really lovely but i think nevaeh is awful
Reply:I think Ivy is pretty but Nevaeh really kills me. I think it's trendy, silly, and overused. The whole "heaven spelled backwards" thing is so cheesy and overused, and it's really not cute, classy, or pretty. If you want a middle name with the spiritual effect, I'd suggest Faith or Hope.
Reply:I love the name Ivy.
Neveah does not flow well with Ivy. It also is not unique. And, in my personal opinion it is not a pretty name either.
I hope you find the perfect name!
Reply:I think that it is "okay" together...really though how does it sound with ur last name? If u guys like that name then keep it:)
Reply:JJ said it!
Nevaeh is becoming quite popular, almost redundant and is NOT unique or creative anymore.
Ivy Faith is beautiful.
Reply:That is a beautiful name girl. I have a niece named Nevaeh. But i also love the name Ivy, cause its different.
Reply:Nevaeh is AWFUL!!!!!!!
I love Ivy though =]
Reply:it depends on your last name..
Reply:I think it would be okay together, but actually I think Nevaeh Ivy would be better because it sounds really pretty in that order.
