I have a chain-link fence behind my house and I want to cover it up with ivy. However, it's been difficult looking for a species of ivy that clings onto the chain-link fence. Anyone know of a species that can do just that?
Looking for species of ivy that cling to chain-link fences?
English ivy;
Boston ivy;
Honeysuckles.
Sometimes you have to give them a little help in twining.
Reply:all of them! especially english ivy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:The ivyleaf morning glory (Ipomoea hederacea Jacq.) It has beautiful purple flowers. But you have to control it very carefully (like most vines) because it will spread.
Reply:MORNING GLORIES WILL BE PERFECT
Reply:One of the best know creepwers for this and for being so invasive is the" Virginia creeper"
Reply:Most any type will work. You may have to give them a little help by intertwining the vines at first. For flowers you may want to consider Morning Glories. Little help is needed there.
Reply:Yeah, they don't cling like a Clematis will, but Ivy will grow on a fence, but it must be on the NORTH side of your house.
Ivy needs a northern exposure.
