Can I put a live ivy plant root in my betta bowl, and will it kill my betta if i put the live ivy plant root in there?
Can i put live ivy plant in my Betta bowl?
You could do that but I would not recommend it.
Bettas need open access to the surface of the water because they breathe directly from the air. Rooting an ivy plant in your betta bowl/tank would restrict access to the water's surface.
You may also inadvertently disease your fish by putting a houseplant in with your betta. The plant could have microscopic mites or other hitchhikers that could be harmful to your fish.
Reply:I don't know about Betta, but I used to have VHS. Me like Back to Future 1-3.
Reply:betas eat plant roots but only when there is nothing else to eat
Reply:Yes, you can, but the water will stunt the growth of the ivy... so, if your looking for a short length ivy this is definitely an easy one to take care of... And it will not hurt your beta either...
Reply:Bettas are very sensitive to everything. They are a scaleless fish, so be very careful when adding ANYTHING!
That being said, Devils Ivy has grown OK is some Betta tanks, as well as Peace Lilies.
The problem is the water quality and light requirements that are differrent for plants than for bettas.
Reply:NOOOOO!!!!!
Changing a betta's environment can cause too much stress, causing it to die.
also, it is not something a betta will use, because it is not natural to them.
Reply:Keeping a plant this way could potentially lead to root decay and this would foul the water. The plant might also restrict access to the water's surface and the betta has to be able to surface.
Honestly, the betta needs a heated tank because it's a tropical fish. Maybe you could use the bowl for your plant and get a heated/filtered tank for your fish. Win-win.
Reply:I don't know specifically about Ivy, but other plants are just fine.
Just no dirt !
Reply:yes
Reply:not sure about ivy, but they do sell specific plants for betta's if you want to o2 the water and for ornamentation
Reply:yes you can i have them in mine but sometimes they rot because they have the water circutation.
