Common Ivy?

Anyone any good ideas of getting rid /killing THE COMMON CREEPING IVY from around the base of a tree EASILY and CHEAPLY!

Common Ivy?
The problem with using herbicide on ivy is that the leaves have a thick cuticle. If you use a herbicide add a little washing up liquid to the mix as this will break the surface tension of the water. Also crush a few of the leaves before applying it as this will assist absorption.

It will require more than one application to kill the ivy off completely.
Reply:I removed a couple last year. They were growing from the bottom of a garden wall and into trellis on top. What I did was cut down to a few ins above soil, then pull off all shoots, if you leave them it makes a right mess. Loosened the main roots with a fork and dug them out with a hand trowel as they were mixed with a rose bush. Came out quite easily, and I'm disabled.
Reply:The cheapest way is to dig it out. The easiest is to spray it with herbicide at regular intervals until it's dead then clear the debris.
Reply:Make up a bucket of systemic weed-killer and soak the Ivy in it for a day or so.That will kill the roots without harming the tree.
Reply:The recommended way is to chop it off at the roots, wait for the ivy around the tree to die then pull it off. When new shoots come up from the ivy treat them with Glyphosate.
Reply:Take a pair of secateurs and cut all the shoots as close to the soil as possible, then use a spade to chop off any regrowth.
Reply:use round -up . spray leaves and in a week it will be dead
