I know Columbia has a graduate program, but not a undergraduate program. Cornell and UPENN only have communication departments. Are there any? I am really curious. I would love to go to an Ivy, but there seems no undergraduate journalism degree. My top would be Cornell, and Columbia. If I would major in communications, can I get a masters in journalism? Thanks!
Any Ivy League Undergraduate Journalism Program?
If you are good enough to get into an Ivy League school, you would be better off doing that rather than going to a J-School that is not highly regarded.
If not, you might want to think about going to one of the more respected J-Schools. The bette rpublic universities tend to have good J-Schools. Berkeley, Minnesota and Texas are all good.
You could certainly get a masters in Journalism with a degree in communications.
Reply:You know, you seem like one of the greater majority of generic highschool students that seem to think the ivy's are the best colleges in the world. Maybe if you're rich, but you should focus on just going to a college where your needs will be met, and you won't be severely in debt, because graduate school is what really matters in society. Bachelor's degrees don't get you much, unless you want to settle for a job/ or career that will leave you feeling upset. Go to a public university (not nec. community college) but for example, if you live in NYC there's cuny, and if you live in michigan there's U. Michigan, which is a public school.
Reply:The best undergrad journalism programs are not at the Ivies...the most highly regarded are at Northwestern, Syracuse (Newhouse), Indiana U Bloomington, and UNC Chapel Hill.
Yes, you can get a masters in journalism after communications.
Reply:I don't think you need an undergrad degree in journalism to become a journalist. A communications major or an English major at an Ivy would still put you in a good position, especially if you work on the college newspaper once you are on campus. UPENN's Annenberg School of Communication is a highly regarded program, plus the Daily Pennsylvanian is one of the top college papers. I also have a friend who went to UC Berkeley, majored in Political Science and English and now has a job at the Washington Post. Yale University also has a fabulous student paper as well.
