Is it possible to get a rash from poison ivy in an area of the body that didn't come into contact with it?

Last year I got a VERY bad case of poison ivy all over my torso and arms. I was doing yard work in shorts and a bikini top...what an idiot! ANyway, it went away after several montha and now something strange has happened. I got poison ivy again, but just a small patch on my forearm. No big deal until this morning (about 4 days after first breaking out) when I woke up and found a poison ivy like rash on my tummy, right where my terrible break out last year had been the worst and most concentarted. Is it possible to get a new poison ivy break out even if no sap actually touched the area?

If you are highly allergic, and it sounds like you are, the you can get poison ivy patches from contact with an existing rash elsewhere. You can also contract a poison ivy rash on the air.

Trust me, I know what I'm talking about. Growing up, my neighborhood was still being developed. We had field all around my house. I had it so bad it was in my eyes and down my throat.

Cover the areas, especially at bedtime so that you can't touch them with other parts are affected by the rash.

Good luck and God Bless!
Reply:you probably have the oil from the plants on something. Wash everything you touched or wore. Do you have a dog? It may have the oil in it. See the web site listed below.

There is a big controversy on if you spred it with the rash. Most sources say you only get it from the oil itself.

good luck poisin ivy stinks
Reply:Yes it is possible and it can also seem as if it is spreading. Which it's not - it's just that the oil gets on something and whatever it touches has a reaction.

I had a horrible case of it after burning brush one time - DR told me that the oil actually covered me thru the smoke.....ugh!
Reply:You get it.

You scratch. It gets under your nails.

You scratch someplace ELSE.

You just spread the poison to that area of your body.
Reply:I know people who will get it from being in the same room as an infected person. The oils are somewhat air born and can transfer which can infect a very sensitive person.
