I think there's something important I need to know about ivy...?

Wherever I see any type of ivy my mind is disgusted. It creeps all over the ground covering native plants and covers and kills trees. However, there's this website called ivy.org which preserves ivy in america, and many nurseries stock ivy.

But I know that no one is going to stock and protect something invasive.

So, is only a certain widespread cultivar of Ivy invasive, while the other ones aren't?

There are many types of ivy but all none altered ivy are invasive and destructive.
Reply:I have ivy all over my yard and its a mess. I have tried to kill it but it keeps coming back. It grows into windows and comes into the house if I don't stay on top of it. It is pretty when its controled but destructive when it isn't and easier said than done.I hate the stuff. I looked at that website and i was under the impression that it was just a select type of ivy they were protecting.
Reply:In my experience all ivy can be invasive if the climate is right. Some ivy's though are more agressive than others. I agree with your view that ivy can be a discusting as it invades the natural landscape. There are other invasive "weeds" as well that are sold by seed companies and others.

The only way to stop the spread of invasive weeds is for each property owner to clean them up and not create an environment for them to grow. My state agricultural department posts a list and pictures of invasive weeds found in Idaho.
