it's cool to get in, but does it matter if you graduate from an ivy league undergrad? ivy's are mostly grad schools so will an undergrad degree from columbia or yale give you an advantage?
Does going to an Ivy League Undergrad matter?
Yes it matters however, it is not the end of the world if you don't get it. For example, many investment bankers almost exclusively hire from Ivy League schools. They may not necessarily be the most qualified candidates, but that is the way they operate.
The alumni networks from these schools can be a great help in your career. For example the Princeton alumni network is quite impressive.....and keep in mind that Princeton is primarily an undergrad school.
Lastly, if you are planning on attending grad school, an Ivy undergrad diploma will carry more weight when applying to grad school.
Just to be clear....the above arguments applies to all top tier schools. In addition to the 8 Ivies, you can include MIT, Stanford, Cal Tech, Duke, Univ of Chicago, Hopkins, etc. in the mix.
Reply:I'd imagine it would give an advantage. You have to work harder to get in, which looks good on your resume, making you seem like a hard worker.
