I am a freshman in highschool. I have straight A's but I think my math grade slipped to a B+. I am taking AP bio and plan to take AP Chem, statistics, and maybe even AP history. I am in only two clubs(JSA and the chess club), do some community service, but that is all. Can I make it to a Ivy League school, preferaby Princeton?
As a side note, should I take AP history if I want to get into an Ivy League school? I may be pushing it but I do not know.
Can I get into an Ivy League school with a B+ average in geometry?
Grades and SAT scores are an easy way to weed people out. I'd imagine that the Ivy League schools weed out most people who have less than 3.8 GPA's, and under 1400 SAT scores. That still leaves a huge pool of applicants. I'd do something that shows you are a little more well rounded person than the Chess Club. Set a goal to raise money for a homeless shelter, or some other needey cause and find a way to get your name and picture in the local paper. Something like that, along with your good grades will make you stand out.
Fair or not, when I think chess club, I think boring dweeb. I think you would have more success if you projected determination and success toward a useful goal.
Reply:People think Ivy Leagues only take those with 4.0 GPAs. Not true. A girl I knew w/ a B+ average overall got into Yale. Work hard and dont stress. They accept people with many interests, and if they like you—lucky! If you are doing well, you'll be fine. Report It
Reply:My school gives me access to thios site where it gives you data based on graduating seniors from the past 4 years.
You can go into scattergrams and it tells you how many people got into a certain college/university based on their SAT score and GPA (unweighted - means even honors, ap courses = 4.0 for an A).
From my school, only seniors with an overall 4.0 GPA and 2400 FLAT score on their SATS got in..and many with those same credentials who got DENIED...
good luck buddy....
Reply:You're pushing it...take all the AP classes you can...since you are in JSA...have you considered doing one of the summer schools JSA offers? I attended JSA Summer School at Princeton over the summer and while you are there, you have the oppurtunity to talk to Princeton admissions counselors...it's worth looking into. It was a great experience.
