Okay I am a sophomore and I am really trying to get into an Ivy league school. I was wondering if there is anything else I can do to get accepted! I get straight A's and I have good test scores. What else can I do???? How did you get in?????
Any Ivy Leaguers out there?????
I went to Yale College and go to Harvard Law School now.
I answered a question similar to this recently--here's answer I gave.
1. Get the best grades you can. Straight A's are best. But a mix of mostly A's and a few B's is OK, especially if the B's are in tough AP/honors courses. So, yes, try to get straight A's, but if you get a B, don't kill yourself over it--just work harder. Try to stay in the top 10% of your high school class.
2. Take challenging classes. Honors, AP, etc. Don't take soo many at once that you overload yourself and get a C. But take as many as you can take with good grades.
3. Choose some extracurricular activities, and dedicate yourself to them. Community service or volunteering is good. Other clubs/extracurriculars are also helpful. It doesn't have to be all community service. The most important things are commitment (do the same activities for long periods of time) and leadership (being president, or treasurer, or committee chair...). And you should have at least 1 or 2 community service activities, but your other activities can be clubs, or student council, etc. Varsity athletics also helps, if you are thletic--but if sports isn't your thing, no big deal, just find something else to do with the time.
4. Get as high scores on the SATs as you possibly can. Start studying a little bit this year or next year, so you will be very well prepared to take the exam late in your junior year (or early in your senior year, but better to get it out of the way in junior year if you can). You'll need a few SAT II subject tests in addition to the SAT I.
5. Think about what teachers you might ask for recommendation letters, because you need good ones. Try to take more than one class with them, so that they get to know you well. Or the reverse: in your senior year, ask the teachers you've taken the most classes with (or done the best with) to recommend you. But if you start thinking about that now, you can perhaps plan accordingly.
6. And of course write a good essay that you have proofread and reviewed by others.

I know how you feel, because I've been there before. And if you work hard enough, you can do it. As I write this, I am sitting next to my window facing out onto Harvard Square.

Reply:my brother goes to brown and he took all ap classes his junior and senior year, worked 23 hours per week, played 3 varsity sports(captain of all of them), he was junior and senior class president, was editor of the newspaper and initiated an enviromental protection club at school, and had 200 hours of community service.
basically he had no life and we never saw him haha.
add. he also got a 800math 750cr and 770 writing. he also got accepted to hyp but he liked brown better
Reply:How did I get in? I applied. My SAT scores weren't too bad either. Of course, it also helped to have graduated from a HS that practically had a pipeline to the Ivies, especially in our state.
Just keep your grades up, enjoy yourself in extracurricular activities, and have fun.
Reply:Try communtiy sevice, and get good SATS. My teacher told me that most people who go to Ivy League's went to a private High School. Her brother works at Harvard. So if your not in a private school, try going to one. I want to go to NYU, and I am worried that I don't have as much chances as private school students, do. Good Luck!
