Can it be done? With the scholastic demands of an ivy league university, basically having to ingest books morning, noon and night.......
I'm having doubts about myself and my ability.
Is there anybody out there in a similar situation? Know someone who is? Do u attend one and have an opinion?
Ivy league = the single mom?
My question is... why not?
You know what you and your child will gain from this. What do you stand to lose if you don't go through this? You can make this work. Keep your head up high, and no matter how difficult school may be, think about the alternative, life would be much harder if you give up. There's only one way to go... go up and forward.
Reply:Ivy league schools are not really that much more rigorous than other institutions when it comes to undergraduate studies. In fact, most of the prestige of the Ivy league schools comes from research and graduate studies. You really shouldn't have that much trouble with the work load. Why not consider going part time to start?
Reply:You can do it!
It may be a lot, and this is a strange question for me to answer, but I'm an ivy league student right now (Brown) and there were some "untraditional students" in one of my lectures that I talked to... and they were able to keep up just fine with school AND with their families.
They were intimidated also, but classes will take the same amount of time anywhere, homework may be challenging to find time for (but you can do it), and you might find the time to study to be difficult, but you shouldn't be scared!
Ivy League universities have lots of resources, so if you need some extra help to get your work or studying done more efficiently, there are plenty of people there!
PLUS, all of my professors have been really helpful and understanding anytime I have needed an extension.
My mom (single mom of 3) went back to school when I was in junior high and she graduated college when I graduated high school and it was AWESOME.
I completely encourage you to accept the challenge and achieve what the university felt you had the ability to do... no one thought you could do it, this opportunity would not have been presented to you.
Best of luck!
