I have english ivy growing on the side of my two story brick house. there are no window or anything just a very tall chimney up top and and gutters at the roof. I really dont want to kill myself trying to trim the ivy. It looks good now, but I have heard it looks better if you trim it 3TIMES A YEAR! I dont think so. I am not into that.
My question is does it look bad if you let it go and never trim. Maybe when it gets inside the gutters, I will pay a gutter cleaner to remove it. Otherwise what is wrong with the free growing look of english ivy on the side of a two story brick house (dont forget no windows on that side)?
Is it okay to let english ivy go without being trimmed ever?
It will be fine left as it is until it blocks your guttering. Also, be careful if the brick it is growing on is loose as it might invade through or create cracks. Trimming it once every few years will make it look fresher, due to new growth, but if it looks ok, leave it.
