I recently received an acceptance letter from an Ivy League college. However, my grades decreased dramatically during the third quarter of my senior year--this has never happened to me before. I believe the reason my grades have dropped is because my step-father passed away a month ago. Would a college drop me from their acceptance list if my grades took an unexpected dive in the third quarter of my senior year while taking into account these factors?
Ivy League?
If you have a letter formally accepting you for admission to the fall semester, it would be highly unlikely that they would withdraw that decision. You obviously have what they believe is the "right stuff" for their school or they wouldn't have accepted you already. As you said, your temporary dip in performance was the result of a situation over which you had no control.
I'm sorry to hear of your loss, it certainly would be enough to distract you from your schoolwork. Hang in there and good luck.
Reply:Once your in they only give a cursory check on your follow-up grades- if they find something wrong with them, they likely will ask for a reason and when they do they usually are very understanding
Reply:Highly unlikely, as long as you are able to give a reasonable explanation. Furthermore, as it seems to be an aberration, I doubt it will matter much as long as this isn't the beginning of a trend.
