Heres my stats
4.0 GPA
1 out of 410 in my class
2nd VP of National Honor Society and FBLA
member of SADD, Quiz Bowl, and Politically Active Youth of America
My ACT is 32.
I really want to apply to Ivy League, but I took the ACT without Writing portion.
Is it still possible to apply and be accepted?
Applying to Ivy League?
Take the writing portion, b/c everyone else applying will have taken it....Your stats look good, and I assume you took all AP, but your EC's are just average. Everyone has those.
Reply:With all those impressive credentials, you don't know? Your schools advisors are pretty sad.
You need to look at which Ivies you want to consider, access their catalogues online and find out their application requirements. Some don't care about ACT, some might want SAT instead, and if they want ACT you best go repeat it and do the writing.
As for the strength of your application--we don't have enough information. Do you have any community service to cite? Are you a member of a desired minority? Got any relatives who can pull you in as a legacy? Know any super-successful alumni who will write letters on your behalf?
Ivies are inscrutable; sometimes the student who doesn't seem to stand a chance will get admitted, while a student with glowing credentials will get turned down. The only way you'll find out is to pay the application fee and wait.
As a general rule, I'd apply to no more than five colleges--and one of them should be a good state university, and one should be an open-admissions place like a community college just in case nothing else comes through. Applying to dozens of places is a major expenditure for all those fees and copying costs and postage.
Reply:Yes
But BEAR in mind this year Harvard rejected 1,200 students with PERFECT SAT scores
They want more.
They wanted ROUNDED individuals who will make them PROUD.
HOW do you intened to CONVEY to THEM that YOU will make them PROUD of you.
Reply:While transcripts and test scores are important and serve as good indicators, make sure your personal statement (the essay you would write about yourself and your goals) is well crafted. Your credentials sound great, so a strong PS will only add to that. And besides, there is no harm in applying and finding out for sure.
