my son is 10 years old and he has poison ivy all over his hands and neck, i took him to the Dr. and he gave him a perscription and it went away, but now it is starting to come back, what other method can i take to get rid of it.
i think he has an allergic reaction to poison ivy .
I have a ? about poison ivy, oak or sumac.?
Your child, like 99% of people is allergic to the oil that is in the poison ivy/oak plant, so this is not unusual. However, poinson ivy does not recur after going away unless you have new exposure. Make sure that you've cleaned all of his clothes, sheets, towels, washrags, and ets that he's come in contact with recently.
Poison oak, like poison ivy is typically treated with calamine lotion, OTC antihistamines, and topical steroids like hydrocortisone. It is also important to clean the clothes that you've been wearing when you think he was first exposee. Otherwise you'll get the oil somewhere else and have a new itchy spot. Try the OTC stuff for a few days and see your primary car doc again if it doesn't go away by next week.
I've attached an article to teach you more. I hope this helps.
