I am wondering if my dog or cat got into poison Ivy and laid on a chair, if the oils are in the fabric of this chair, how would I go about removing them? Can I use my hoover steam cleaner on the chair, and if I do will it remove the oils or should I pre-treat it with something before?
I have a small but quite irritating case of pi and that is the only way I can think of I possibly got it because after sitting on the chair and watching a movie, I started itching and the subsequent red patches starting showing up. Any help on how to clean that chair would be greatly appreciated!

Poison Ivy?
I have used every commerical product under the sun to try and kill the poison ivy that grows along the edges of my yard and on my fence, so far nothing has worked. I have a very shaded backyard that remains cool %26amp; damp. Any suggestions?

good god, don't burn it!!! the smoke from poison ivy contains the oils that give you dermatitis! DO NOT BURN POISON IVY! Even if you're not allergic, someone else may be and can get it in their eyes, throats and lungs!!!!
I'd suggest Brush-b-gone from ortho. PI is tough. Might take several applications, but it will kill it.
Reply:Removing the soil and replacing it. Get someone with a skiploader just like you were going to put in a septic tank. Dig 5ft. down deep and start over with uninfected soil.

At my old house, I just removed it by hand. I wore long sleeves, long pants, rubber gloves, and put my hair up in a scarf so that I wouldn't forget and brush it away. Those roots are nasty! I once dug a very small plant and discovered it was growing from a 1/4" diameter root. I pulled 3' of that root out of the ground before it broke and I lost it. I had been working on that patch for a couple of years, though, and that was finally the last straw--it never came back. I got an oversized garbage bag to put it all in so that I wouldn't have to fight it to get it to stay in.
And yes, I got poison ivy every single time, no matter what precautions I took. Only once did I have to go to the doctor, though.
It's nasty. One root went dormant for a year. But I kept checking, so I got it when it sent up another shoot.
I'd try Roundup and everything everybody else suggests first, though.
Reply:Use gloves-cut off a few stems, the part of the stem that is still attached to the plant you put into full strength Roundup for several hours--but remember, even the roots have volitale oil which even through they may no longer be growing have toxicity up to 18 months. I can tell you this from the experience of looking like a leper for almost a month! Do not burn, the gases from the oils can coat your lungs, and you'll wind up in the ER

Also, Brush Killer, not sure of the brand, but it is a brand-name product. I tried it and it worked very well for me.

my Ivy was up on a shelf where I couldnt exactly feel the dirt. and in a more shady area than sunny. I guess I watered her too much, the clue was water running down my wall. {sigh}
I got her for Easter :(
Well then I put her out on the sun porch hoping she would dry out and now she looks even worse. the leaves are brown but not crispy..dead is dead. I see SOME green ones what can I do? replant her? throw her away? prune her down to the bottom? My husband looked at me like I was a murderer,and she cost him a fortune.
what can I do to save her? Her name is

if you see some green leaves the plant is not dead. Provided those are new leaves.
When you water a plant too much it rots...that's why the leaves are not crispy. And..... there's nothing you can do about rotten plant.
First of all, make sure the soil is not wet, otherwise what hasn't rotten yet, will. If it is, move it to dry soil. In the process you can get rid of the rotten roots and find out how the 'good' ones, if there are any, are doing.
Nature is pretty smart. If the plant is not dead and you take proper care of it, it will survive.
Never, ever, over water a plant. It's better to keep them drier than normal than over watered. A plant lacking humidity will wake up when you water it -unless it's completely dead, of course-. But, as I said before, there's nothing you can do about a rotten plant.

umm maybe try like soaking it in vodka ( im serious) i dont know for how long but they did it on mythbusters and it worked ( i think)
Reply:Try bathing in Epsom salt baths - but only if the rash is spread over a large portion of your body. Otherwise, avoid baths and instead take showers until the rash is healed. (Baths can help the rash to spread.) Make a poultice or a paste out of Epsom salts or colloidal oatmeal and place on the rash.
Calamine lotion works great (and I think comes in a non-pink type now!). Try not to itch! Itching spreads it! Good luck! :)
